What you'll study

The programme offers a blend of core and pathway-specific modules to develop leadership, research literacy and advanced clinical skills. Core topics typically include healthcare systems and policy, advanced health assessment, epidemiology and biostatistics, ethics in nursing, health informatics, and evidence-based practice.

• Nursing Administration pathway: organisational leadership, financial management for healthcare, human resource issues in nursing, quality improvement, strategic planning and practicum in leadership/management settings.
• Nursing Research pathway: research design and methods, advanced statistics, grant writing, translational research, data management, and a research thesis or capstone project conducted under faculty supervision.
• Clinical Nursing pathway: advanced pathophysiology, pharmacology for advanced practice, clinical decision-making, specialty-focused seminars (for example gerontology, psychiatric/mental health, acute care) and supervised clinical practicum hours to refine advanced assessment and intervention skills.

Most students complete a mixture of seminars, small-group case work, laboratory/simulation sessions and a major clinical or research practicum. Coursework emphasises interdisciplinary collaboration, population health, and application of research to practice.

Entry requirements

Applicants are expected to hold current registration/licensure as a Registered Nurse and to have completed a bachelor’s degree. Typical academic requirements include a bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) or equivalent; applicants with degrees in related fields may be considered if they meet prerequisite clinical coursework and experience.

• Relevant clinical experience is usually required; many successful applicants have at least one to two years of post-registration nursing practice.
• A competitive undergraduate GPA, professional references (often two), a personal statement outlining professional goals and fit with the chosen pathway, and an up-to-date CV are required.
• International applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency to the university’s standards.
• Certain pathways may require an interview and may set additional prerequisites (for example prior research training for the Research pathway or specific clinical competencies for the Clinical pathway).
