What you'll study

The programme combines foundational computing and information theory with applied practice in data, systems and user-centred design. You will study a mix of core modules, electives and a culminating project or practicum that emphasises real-world problem solving and workplace-ready skills.

• Core technical topics: programming fundamentals, data structures, database design and administration, networking basics, and system architecture.
• Information-focused subjects: information organisation and retrieval, metadata, digital curation, information policy, and records management.
• Data and analytics: introductory statistics, data visualisation, data analytics methods and working with structured and unstructured data.
• User-centred design and HCI: principles of human–computer interaction, usability testing, user research and interface design.
• Security and ethics: information security fundamentals, privacy, ethical issues in information management and legal/regulatory considerations.
• Professional practice: project management, IT service management, teamwork and communication for technical professionals.
• Capstone/practicum: a substantial final project, industry practicum or internship that integrates technical, analytic and managerial skills on an applied problem.

Entry requirements

Applicants are normally expected to hold a recognised secondary school qualification or equivalent. City University of Seattle considers a range of academic backgrounds; applicants without a direct computing background may be required to take preparatory units in mathematics or introductory programming. Transfer students from community colleges or other universities are welcome, with credit evaluated on an individual basis.

International applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency where applicable (for example via recognised English tests or previous study in English). Mature applicants with relevant work experience may be considered through alternative admissions pathways.
