What you'll study

The programme combines core engineering science with specialist electrical and electronic topics. Early study covers calculus, differential equations, physics, digital logic and introductory circuit theory to build a strong mathematical and physical foundation. Core electrical and electronic modules typically include analogue and digital electronics, signals and systems, microprocessors and embedded systems, electromagnetics, control systems, power fundamentals, and communications principles.

Practical laboratory work is integral, with courses including electronics labs, digital systems labs and microcontroller/embedded labs that reinforce theoretical concepts. Students normally complete junior- and senior-level design courses and a capstone design project that develops team-based engineering design, documentation and presentation skills. Elective options allow focus in areas such as power and energy systems, telecommunications, instrumentation and control, or biomedical electronics.

Entry requirements

Typical entry requires a high-school diploma or equivalent with strong achievement in mathematics (calculus-preparatory or equivalent) and physics. Applicants should demonstrate proficiency in algebra and trigonometry as a minimum; prior exposure to calculus and physics is strongly recommended.

For applicants whose first language is not English, proof of English language proficiency is usually required through recognised tests or equivalent qualifications. Transfer students from community colleges or other universities are evaluated on completed coursework and GPA, with many students transferring in after completing introductory calculus, physics and engineering courses.
