What you'll study

This programme combines technical instruction with production practice to build competence across audio, video and networked media systems. You will study signal flow, audio engineering, multicamera video production, digital post-production, lighting for studio and live events, and the design and maintenance of audiovisual (AV) systems. Coursework emphasises both traditional broadcast techniques and contemporary IP-based workflows, including live streaming, compressed media delivery and media asset management.

• Core technical modules: audio fundamentals, video camera and optics, studio and field production, lighting and acoustics.
• Systems and networks: AV systems design, signal routing, IP media transport, control systems and practical integration.
• Post-production and distribution: nonlinear editing, sound design, colour correction, codecs, compression and platform distribution.
• Practical labs and projects: hands-on work in studios, control rooms and live-event rigs, plus individual and group production projects.
• Professional practice: project management, health and safety, client relations, and legal/ethical considerations in media technology.
• Capstone experience: a culminating project or practicum where students design, install or operate a complete AV production or systems deployment.

Entry requirements

Applicants are normally expected to hold a high school diploma or equivalent. Admissions typically consider academic transcripts, a personal statement and letters of recommendation. Because the programme emphasises hands-on work, applicants may be asked to submit a short portfolio or examples of technical/media work if available; practical experience in film, theatre, music technology or live events is advantageous but not mandatory.
