What you'll study

The programme combines core natural science and public health subjects with applied environmental and occupational health topics. Typical modules include environmental chemistry, microbiology for public health, toxicology, principles of epidemiology, air and water quality, hazardous materials management, industrial hygiene, environmental sampling and instrumentation, risk assessment, environmental law and policy, and GIS for environmental health.

Entry requirements

Applicants are expected to hold a recognised secondary school qualification or equivalent. Successful candidates typically have studied biology and chemistry, and have a grounding in mathematics. Selection commonly takes into account academic transcripts and letters of recommendation; some programmes may request a personal statement explaining interest in environmental health.

Because of the vocational and placement aspects of the degree, students should be prepared to meet any health, immunisation or background check requirements set by external placement providers. Additional preparatory courses in laboratory safety or first aid may be recommended.
