What you'll study

The programme combines advanced taught modules with a substantial research or design dissertation. Core topics typically cover advanced structural analysis and design, geotechnical engineering, hydraulics and water resources, construction materials and durability, and infrastructure asset management. You will study analytical and computational methods, design codes and standards, and risk and reliability in engineering. Modules often include a mixture of lectures, laboratory and field work, computer-aided design and finite element modelling, and group design projects that reflect industry briefs.

The degree culminates in an independent research project or industrially linked design project where you apply research methods, carry out detailed analysis or experimental work, and produce a written dissertation and presentation. Entry requirements

Applicants are normally expected to hold a UK honours degree in civil engineering or a closely related engineering discipline. Candidates with equivalent international qualifications will be considered. Applicants with a lower classification may be eligible if they have relevant industrial experience or additional supporting qualifications. All applicants whose first language is not English must meet the university's English language requirements.
