What you'll study

The MEM blends taught modules with an individual research or consultancy project. You will study a combination of management and technical topics designed to equip you to lead engineering teams and manage complex engineering projects.

• Engineering Management and Strategy – frameworks for strategic decision-making in technology organisations, organisational structures and leadership in engineering contexts.
• Project and Programme Management – project planning, risk management, scheduling, earned value and stakeholder management for engineering projects.
• Operations and Supply Chain Management – production systems, lean thinking, quality management and supply chain considerations for manufactured and engineered goods.
• Finance and Commercial Management for Engineers – financial appraisal, costing, budgeting and commercial decision-making relevant to engineering projects and capital investments.
• Technology and Innovation Management – managing R&D, technology adoption, intellectual property and the innovation lifecycle.
• Systems Engineering and Integration – systems thinking, requirements management and the integration of complex engineering systems (where offered or optional).

Modules may be delivered through lectures, seminars, case studies, group work and applied projects. The programme is typically available full-time and part-time to accommodate recent graduates and working professionals.

Entry requirements

Applicants are normally expected to hold a good honours degree in engineering, technology, applied science or a closely related subject. Equivalent professional qualifications plus relevant work experience are also considered, especially for mature or industry-experienced applicants.

• Standard academic entry: a UK second-class honours degree (2:2) or above in a relevant discipline, or international equivalent.
• Work experience: candidates without a traditional engineering degree may be considered if they can demonstrate significant relevant professional experience and technical responsibility.
• English language: applicants whose first language is not English are normally required to meet the University's English language requirements (for example an approved qualification at an appropriate level).
• Supporting materials: a personal statement outlining motivation and experience, references, and where appropriate an interview or employer support statement for part-time students.
