The Computer Science for Games Programming BSc/MEng (Hons) at the University of Hull combines core computer science with specialist skills in game development, real-time graphics, physics and AI. What you'll study

The programme covers a blend of core computer science topics and game-specific subjects. Early years focus on programming fundamentals, algorithms, data structures, software engineering and mathematics for computing. As you progress you study real-time graphics and rendering, game engine architecture, physics simulation, artificial intelligence for games, human–computer interaction, and tools and pipeline development for production.

The BSc route emphasises practical project work and typically culminates in a substantial individual or team final-year game or simulation project. The MEng option extends the honours degree with additional advanced modules and an extended or research-led final project, providing deeper specialism and preparation for technical leadership or research roles.

Throughout the degree you gain hands-on experience with industry-standard languages and tools (for example C++, C#, Unity, Unreal Engine, graphics APIs) and develop transferable skills such as version control, testing, and agile development.

Entry requirements

Typical entry requires successful completion of a recognised secondary qualification such as A-levels, BTEC, Scottish Highers or the International Baccalaureate. A good pass in a technical subject such as Computer Science, Mathematics or Physics is highly desirable. Applicants without formal qualifications but with substantial relevant experience or a portfolio of personal projects may also be considered.

  • Strong numeracy and problem-solving skills; mathematics at A-level or equivalent is often required or strongly recommended.
