What you'll study

This master's develops core economic tools and sectoral knowledge needed to analyse environmental and food system challenges. Teaching typically combines micro- and macro‑economic theory, applied econometrics and policy analysis with specialised modules on natural resource economics, agricultural and food economics, and environmental valuation.

• Core quantitative modules: econometrics for policy evaluation, applied statistics, modelling of economic-environment interactions.
• Environmental economics: environmental policy instruments, cost–benefit analysis, valuation of ecosystem services, climate change economics.
• Food and agricultural economics: agri‑food supply chains, food markets and trade, food safety economics, rural development policy.
• Tools and applications: spatial analysis/GIS for resource management, bioeconomy and sustainability assessment, modelling of land use and water resources.
• Research and practice: applied project or internship with an external partner and a research dissertation on a supervised topic in environmental or food economics.

Entry requirements

Applicants are normally expected to hold a relevant first-cycle degree (equivalent to a bachelor’s) in economics, agricultural economics, environmental sciences, statistics, or another social science with substantial quantitative content. Key elements assessed in applications include academic transcripts, evidence of quantitative training (for example in econometrics or statistics), a curriculum vitae, and a personal statement outlining academic interests and career goals.

Additional requirements may include one or more academic references and proof of language competence where courses are taught in a language other than the applicant’s first language. Applicants without a directly related undergraduate degree but with appropriate preparatory studies or professional experience may be considered, sometimes with conditions or preparatory coursework.

• Economic analyst or policy advisor in national and regional government departments dealing with agriculture, environment, natural resources and food safety.

• Researcher or analyst in international organisations and NGOs focused on food security, rural development and environmental protection.
• Positions in the private food industry and supply‑chain firms, including roles in sustainability strategy, market intelligence and regulatory compliance.
• Further academic study (PhD) in environmental economics, agricultural economics or related social sciences.
