What you'll study

The programme builds core competence in molecular and cellular biology, biochemistry, genetics and microbiology, emphasising practical laboratory skills and experimental design. Teaching mixes lectures, seminars, computer-based bioinformatics sessions and continuous laboratory practice in modern research facilities.

• Core molecular subjects: molecular biology, recombinant DNA technology, gene expression and regulation, protein structure and function.
• Laboratory and practical skills: aseptic technique, PCR, electrophoresis, cloning, protein purification, microscopy, cell culture and analytical methods.
• Applied and interdisciplinary modules: molecular diagnostics, biotechnology of microorganisms and plants, bioprocess engineering, quality assurance and regulatory aspects.
• Quantitative and computational training: biostatistics, experimental design, introduction to bioinformatics and data analysis.
• Research project / Bachelor thesis: an independent laboratory-based research project carried out under academic supervision, often linked to ongoing research at the university's institutes.
• Work placements: opportunities for internships in industry, hospitals or research centres to gain real-world experience and professional contacts.

The structure is modular and follows the European bachelor framework, with progressively advanced study across the programme and a capstone research/thesis component in the final year.

Entry requirements

Applicants are normally expected to hold a secondary school leaving qualification that grants access to higher education in their country, with a strong background in biology and chemistry; mathematics is also highly recommended. Selection may consider grades in relevant science subjects and motivation for biotechnology study.

For programmes taught in English, international applicants must demonstrate proficiency in English through an accepted language certificate or other recognised evidence of ability. Applicants with prior tertiary study in related areas may be considered for recognition of prior learning in accordance with university regulations.
