What you'll study

The DIFE Master’s provides a blend of theoretical and applied training across core areas of international finance, advanced econometrics and development economics. Typical study components include advanced microeconomics and macroeconomics, financial markets and institutions, international finance and open-economy macroeconomics, applied econometrics and time-series analysis, development policy and project evaluation, and elective modules that allow specialisation (for example, corporate finance, risk management, public finance or sustainable finance).

The programme combines taught modules with substantial independent work: coursework and seminars are followed by a supervised research dissertation or practicum. Teaching methods include lectures, problem-solving seminars, data workshops using real-world datasets and software (e.g. econometric packages), and case studies reflecting regional and global policy issues.

Entry requirements

• A completed Bachelor’s degree (or recognised equivalent) in economics, finance, business, mathematics, statistics or another relevant social science or quantitative discipline.
• A transcript demonstrating strong academic performance in core subjects such as microeconomics, macroeconomics, statistics/econometrics and introductory finance where applicable.
• Proof of English-language proficiency if your prior degree was not taught in English or Slovenian; accepted evidence typically includes internationally recognised tests or institutional certification.
• Supporting documents such as a curriculum vitae, a statement of purpose or motivation letter outlining your academic and career objectives, and one or two academic or professional references.
• Some applicants may be invited to an interview or asked to provide sample work; applicants with a strong quantitative background but limited formal coursework in economics may be required to take preparatory modules.

Graduates from DIFE typically pursue careers as financial analysts, economic or policy advisers, risk managers, consultants, or researchers in central banks, international organisations, government ministries, commercial banks, investment firms and think-tanks.
