What you'll study

• Core ultrasound science: ultrasound physics and instrumentation, image optimisation, Doppler principles and quality assurance.
• Clinical sonography practice: focused modules in abdominal, obstetrics and gynaecology, superficial parts and small parts (thyroid, breast), vascular sonography and basic musculoskeletal scanning.
• Extended practice and pathology: sonographic appearances of common and critical disease processes, case evaluation, report writing and differential diagnosis.
• Professional practice and research: clinical governance, ethics, professional issues, patient communication and an introduction to evidence‑based practice or a small research/project component.
• Practical training: simulated skills laboratory training and supervised clinical placements in a range of settings including tertiary and regional hospitals, community imaging centres and allied health services.

Entry requirements

• A recognised bachelor degree or higher in a health‑related discipline (for example nursing, physiotherapy, radiography, medical laboratory science) or equivalent clinical experience; applicants without a health degree but with substantial relevant clinical experience may be considered on a case‑by‑case basis.
• Evidence of satisfactory background in human anatomy and physiology; some applicants may be required to complete bridging units before commencing clinical components.
• Academic transcripts and a CV detailing clinical experience; selection may include referee reports and an interview or screening process.
• Must meet professional placement requirements such as a police check, immunisation and health screening, and any local clinical provider clearances.
