This combined pathway through Central Queensland University begins with a Bachelor of Nutrition and progresses to a Master of Nutrition and Dietetics, preparing students for professional practice as accredited dietitians. It suits students who want a science-based education in nutrition with clinical training, applied placements and research experience to work in clinical, community, industry or research settings.
What you'll study
The program combines undergraduate study in nutrition science with postgraduate professional training in dietetics. Early undergraduate study covers foundational biomedical and nutrition topics such as human physiology, biochemistry for nutrition, introductory and applied nutrition, food science and diet and disease interactions. Students learn evidence-based assessment of dietary intake, community nutrition principles and public health approaches.
At master's level the emphasis shifts to advanced clinical nutrition and dietetic practice. Typical units include medical nutrition therapy across the life course, advanced clinical assessment, therapeutic diets, nutrition support (including enteral and parenteral nutrition), intercultural practice and behavioural change strategies. The coursework also covers research methods and a major research project or capstone, preparing students to critically appraise and contribute to nutrition science.
Practical learning is an integral component. The program includes multiple supervised professional placements in a variety of settings — hospitals and clinical wards, community health services, aged-care, indigenous health services, sports and wellness centres and food industry placements. Simulated clinical labs and interprofessional learning with allied health disciplines support transition to professional practice.
