For the MSc option you undertake an applied dissertation project that typically addresses a practical safety or environmental problem, demonstrating evidence-based solutions. The MRes places greater emphasis on independent research and methodological rigour, culminating in an extended research thesis. The programme is delivered online with a combination of tutor-led webinars, e-learning materials, case studies and assessed coursework aligned to NEBOSH vocational outcomes.

Entry requirements

Typical entry is a UK honours degree at 2:2 or above in a relevant subject, or an equivalent international qualification. Applicants with substantial professional experience in health, safety or environmental roles combined with recognised vocational qualifications such as NEBOSH certificates or diplomas may be considered.

Professional references that confirm workplace responsibilities and evidence of recent continuing professional development strengthen applications. Applicants whose first language is not English will need to meet the university's English language requirements for postgraduate study, commonly demonstrated by a recognised test or evidence of prior study in English.
