What you'll study

This joint degree blends core topics in pure and applied mathematics with foundational and advanced computer science. In early years you build a strong base in calculus, linear algebra, probability, discrete mathematics and programming. Typical modules include Mathematical Analysis, Linear Algebra, Probability and Statistics, Foundations of Computing, Data Structures and Algorithms, and Object-Oriented Programming.

In later years you move to more specialised mathematical modules such as Differential Equations, Mathematical Modelling, Numerical Analysis and Optimization alongside computer science options like Database Systems, Machine Learning, Software Engineering, Computer Networks and Artificial Intelligence. Courses emphasise both theory and practical implementation: coursework and projects often require formal proofs, algorithm design and software development.

The programme normally includes team and individual projects, offering experience in problem specification, implementation and reporting. Students can usually tailor their final-year study through optional modules and a substantial dissertation or computing project that integrates mathematics and computer science.
