Programme overview

Utica University's Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) is an intensive 16-month baccalaureate program offered at Utica and Albany, New York. The program uses a blended model of online coursework and on-site clinicals and labs, has three annual start dates (January, May and August), and operates on a rolling-admission basis. The nursing baccalaureate is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

What you'll study

The curriculum builds on existing non-nursing college credits and combines online or face-to-face coursework with hands-on laboratory practice and clinical placements. Students develop fundamental nursing skills in supervised lab settings at the Utica or Albany sites and gain patient-care experience through clinical rotations across specialties such as pediatrics and acute care.

Entry requirements

Applicants must have prior college credit or a non-nursing degree. Specifically, candidates with at least 65 college credits and a cumulative GPA of 2.8 are eligible to start the ABSN or the Advanced Standing B.S. in Nursing program. Utica also offers an option to reserve a seat for a desired start date for applicants who meet eligibility and commit to completing outstanding degree requirements.

Career prospects

On successful completion students will hold a baccalaureate degree in nursing and be prepared to sit for the NCLEX-RN licensing exam required for registered nurse practice. Clinical placements and the program’s emphasis on applied skills aim to ready graduates for entry-level nursing roles across a range of care settings.
