A five-year dual degree pathway that lets students complete a bachelor’s plus a Master of Arts in Sports Communication & Media. It suits students aiming for practical, production-focused careers in sports media—those who want hands-on broadcasting experience or multimedia skills for athletic communications.

What you'll study

Students choose one of two master’s tracks and build a digital portfolio/production reel through classroom work, field production and internships.

  • Sports Broadcasting Track: in-class exercises, out-of-class field production work and internships with sports media companies to develop broadcast skills and production experience.
  • Athletic Communications & Promotions Track: extensive multimedia training including graphics production to prepare for roles in athletic communications and promotions.

Entry requirements

Dual degree students are guaranteed admission to the MA provided they continue as undergraduates to meet program-specific progression guidelines. To matriculate into the graduate SCM program students must successfully complete the bachelor’s degree with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. Students must also earn a grade of B or better in any graduate courses taken while still undergraduates.

Career prospects

Graduates are prepared for practical roles in sports media and communications supported by an accomplished production reel and internship experience. Typical job titles listed by the program include broadcast journalist, multimedia content producer, public address announcer, public relations specialist, athletic communications manager, videographer/editor, sports team publicist, sportswriter and television or radio broadcaster. The program cites broader market context such as projected global sports market growth and reported average salaries for sports communications roles.

Scholarships & funding angle (general)

The 4+1 dual degree can reduce overall cost compared with pursuing separate graduate study because it shortens the time to degree. Students also benefit from a reserved place in the graduate program, academic advising and access to campus resources while completing undergraduate requirements.
