What you'll study

The program combines core management, economics and quantitative courses with five closed electives so students can focus on specific areas of business management.

• Year One core courses include ECON101 Principles of Economics (Micro), ECON102 Principles of Economics (Macro), ENGL110 Workplace Communications, MGMT104 Principles of Management, MGMT120 Financial Accounting, MGMT150 Business Mathematics, MGMT221 Managerial Accounting and MGMT290 Quantitative Methods for Business or MATH104 Introduction to Statistics, plus two closed electives.
• Year Two core courses include ECON210 Managerial Economics, DATA210 Data Analytics, MGMT111 or MATH108 Finite Mathematics, MGMT225 Strategic Management, MGMT260 Principles of Corporate Finance I, MGMT295 Management Science, MGMT304 Operations Management, MGMT425 Integrated Strategic Management Seminar (1.0 credit), and three closed electives.
• Closed electives (choose five) include topics such as Organizational Communications, Calculus, Discrete Mathematics, Marketing, Intermediate Financial Accounting I & II, Taxation, Human Resource Management, Advertising, Business Systems Analysis and Design, Entrepreneurship, Business Law, Corporate Finance II, Safety Management, Supervisory Management Skills, Business Sustainability, Non-Profit Management, Management Science II, Business Ethics, Project Management, Logic and Organizational Behavior.

Entry requirements

Applicants must hold a minimum three-year degree in Business, Economics, Computer Science, Information Technology, Math, Engineering or another applicable field, or demonstrate an equivalent combination of education and experience. English proficiency requirements depend on prior schooling: domestic applicants from Standard Written English jurisdictions must show a C grade or higher in specific senior-level English courses or a university-level English course; others must meet Northern Lights College’s General Academic English Language Proficiency requirements or complete the NLC Writing Assessment for placement. Applicants without a three-year degree who apply via equivalent education/experience must meet a math requirement (e.g., BC Pre-calculus 12, BC Principles of Mathematics 12, MATH 050, or pass the Calculus Readiness Assessment). Note: the diploma alone does not typically satisfy requirements for Canadian Master’s programs.

Career prospects

Graduates acquire analytical and practical management skills suited to data-informed roles. Typical job titles cited include Data Analyst, Business Analyst and Operations Analyst, and graduates may work across finance, IT, general management, marketing, logistics or entrepreneurship depending on prior credentials and experience.

Scholarships & funding angle (general)

The program is eligible for Canada Student Loans. Students should budget for tuition, student fees and additional costs such as books, supplies and instruments; a financial calculator is required.
