What you'll study

Students complete a foundational core plus a domain-specific selection. Core and domain courses cover programming, database concepts, web application design, data communication and networking.

• Discipline core (10 credits): ENGL 1010 Introduction to Academic Writing (or ENGL 1005 Foundations of Academic Writing); MATH 1050 College Algebra (or MATH 1055 College Algebra with Preliminaries); INFO 1120 Information Systems and Technology Fundamentals.
• Domain requirements (6 credits): Choose one domain and complete 6 credits from that domain.
• Information Systems domain: INFO 1200 Computer Programming I for IS IT (3) or CS 1400 Fundamentals of Programming; INFO 2420 Web Application Design (3).
• Information Technology domain: IT 1510 Introduction to System Administration--Linux/UNIX (3); IT 1600 Computer Architecture and Systems Software (3).

Entry requirements

Minimum completion of 16 semester credits for the certificate. A grade of C or better is required in all courses, with an overall GPA of at least 2.5. At least 5 residency credit hours must be earned through course attendance at UVU. Students are advised to consult with an academic advisor and use Wolverine Track to individualize their plan; online course options exist.

Career prospects

The curriculum targets entry points into IT and information systems roles. Relevant occupational titles listed by the program include computer and information systems managers; computer systems analysts; computer and information research scientists; computer network architects; database administrators and architects; network and computer systems administrators; software quality assurance analysts and testers; web and digital interface designers; and other computer occupations.
