Operations Management Minor

DegreeUndergraduate
FieldSupply Chain & Logistics

A focused 18-unit minor that equips non‑operations majors with analytical and information‑technology skills used to manage production and delivery processes across manufacturing, service and non‑profit organisations. Suits students who want practical, career‑oriented training in operations, logistics and quality management to broaden employability alongside their major.

Programme overview

The Operations Management minor is an 18‑unit program within the TOM (Technology & Operations Management) department designed to give students outside of operations or non‑business majors the core skills needed to manage business processes that produce and deliver goods and services. The curriculum emphasises analytical methods and information technology applications relevant to manufacturing, service firms and not‑for‑profit organisations.

What you'll study

Total required: 18 units. The minor includes a 12‑unit required core plus 6 units of electives.

  • Minor required core (12 units): STA 1200 - Statistics with Applications (3); TOM 3010 - Operations Management (3); TOM 4010 - Quality Management (3); TOM 4530 - Service Operations Management (3).
  • Minor electives (select 6 units): choose two 3‑unit courses from EBZ 3010 - Business on the Web; EBZ 3030 - Customer Relationship Management and Business Analytics; EBZ 3050 - Enterprise Resource Planning; TOM 3090 - Logistics Management; TOM 3160 - Business Analytics; TOM 3200 - Management of Technology; TOM 4250 - Supply Chain Network Design; TOM 4340 - Purchasing Management; TOM 4360 - Project Management.

Entry requirements

To declare the minor follow the Student Success Central Minor Request process and notify the TOM Department Coordinator. In your email include your full name, Bronco ID number, current major and the minor option you want. The department strongly recommends declaring the minor before taking required courses. If you have completed courses in other departments that you believe satisfy minor requirements, submit a Minor Course Substitution Request Form to the TOM department only after the minor appears on your BroncoDirect.

Career prospects

The program targets roles in operations and related fields such as purchasing, logistics and distribution, supply chain management, inventory control, production management, manufacturing or service quality control, and project management. The department notes that more than half of jobs are in operations or allied areas, so the minor is intended to substantially expand students' career opportunities and growth potential.
