What you'll study

Coursework and practical training focus on the knowledge and skills used in clinical and animal-care settings. Topics explicitly taught include:

• Animal anatomy and physiology
• Nutrition, breeding and husbandry
• Sanitation, behavior, and handling
• Nursing and clinical patient care
• Euthanasia and necropsy procedures

Students also undertake two externship experiences at YTI‑approved sites to practice essential hands-on skills and participate in VTNE prep comprising two prep courses, mock exams, and exam‑monitored assessments.

Entry requirements

YTI admits new cohorts on a regular schedule and provides an automated online application portal for document upload and financial aid initiation. Admissions staff are available to assist applicants. Students choose externship sites that are approved by YTI and located near them.

Career prospects

Graduates are prepared for employment as veterinary technicians in settings such as veterinary practices, universities, research facilities, pharmaceutical companies, and zoos, as well as other workplaces needing veterinary‑technician skills. Graduation from the program qualifies students to sit the Veterinary Technician National Examination (VTNE), which is required for State Certified Veterinary Technician licensure.

Financial aid is available to those who qualify. YTI provides Educational Funding Specialists to help students explore federal, institutional, and private funding options as well as grants and scholarships that may reduce the cost of training.
