What you'll study

The program includes 25 prerequisite credits and 62 nursing major credits, blending theory, lab and clinical experience. Sample courses and focus areas listed on the programme page include:

• Pathophysiology (BIO 2150) — examination of general disease mechanisms with emphasis on disease processes by body system.
• Evidence Based Practice for the BSN (NUR 3050) — skills to appraise research and integrate evidence into clinical decision-making; course comprises 45 hours of theory.
• Human Anatomy and Physiology (BIO 1210) — structure and function of body parts and systems; requires 45 hours lecture and 30 hours lab.
• Interprofessional Collaboration (NUR 3950) — prepares students to work in interdisciplinary teams; 45 hours of online instruction.
• Nursing Concepts (NUR 2450) — fundamental nursing skills, health assessment, and clinical reasoning; includes 45 hours lecture, 30 hours lab, and 45 hours clinical experience.

Entry requirements

Applicants to the BSN need at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA on all college coursework. Science prerequisites — Biology, Chemistry, Anatomy & Physiology I & II, Microbiology, and HSC 1010 — must each be completed with at least a B– (2.7). Baker College also offers a Direct Admission option for high‑achieving high school seniors; to be considered for direct entry applicants must submit an application, high school transcripts, have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher and a minimum grade of 2.7 in biology and one other science course, with materials submitted before February 1 of the senior year.

Career prospects

Graduates are eligible to sit for the licensing examination to become a registered nurse (NCLEX-RN) and can begin practice in medical settings that match their interests. The programme notes that while an ADN or diploma is sufficient for licensure, many employers increasingly prefer or require a BSN for new hires and for advancement into leadership, specialty practice and graduate study.
