Entry requirements

Applicants must meet UCU's general undergraduate admission rules and one of the following specific qualifications: Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education with at least two principal passes at the same sitting; a Diploma in Law from the Law Development Centre or from an accredited university (with or without work experience); or an undergraduate degree from an accredited university. Pre-entry interviews are conducted before admission. Non-English speaking applicants may be required to sit an English proficiency test.

Career prospects

Graduates commonly move into private legal practice, government service, judiciary and parliamentary roles, corporate legal departments, non-governmental organisations, and academic posts. To practise as a fully qualified lawyer in Uganda graduates must complete the Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice at the Law Development Centre. UCU alumni work in private law firms, the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, the Judiciary, Parliament, business corporations, NGOs and academic institutions.

Scholarships & funding angle (general)

Prospective students should consult UCU for details of scholarships and financial support. Application fees stated by the university are UGX 100,000 for Ugandan nationals and USD 50 for international applicants; a higher fee (UGX 150,000) applies to programmes with pre-entry exams, explicitly including the Bachelor of Laws.
