What you'll study

The curriculum uses a block-and-blend delivery model and covers human body function in health and disease across molecular, cellular, organ and systems levels. Core topics explicitly listed include:

• Biochemistry and Biomolecules (mandatory)
• Cell Biology (mandatory)
• Scientific Skills / Scientific Skills for Biomedical Science (mandatory)
• Human Anatomy and Physiology (mandatory)

Across the programme you will encounter key principles and techniques in biochemistry, molecular biology, immunology, physiology and pathophysiology, histology and haematology. Teaching is informed by research-active staff and a close relationship with Ipswich Hospital to keep learning current and practice-oriented.

Entry requirements

Typical academic entry standards stated are 112 UCAS points (e.g. BBC at A-level). Applicants are expected to hold A-level Biology or a related science subject at grade C or above. Applicants must also have three GCSEs at grade C/4 or above including English, Maths and Science (or recognised Level 2 equivalents). The course accepts BTEC (DMM), T Level (Merit) and Access to HE Diploma (Pass) as outlined in the published requirements; applicants without the listed qualifications may be considered individually based on their overall application.

Career prospects

Graduates are prepared for laboratory-based roles, particularly within NHS clinical and technical settings, and for research posts in universities, pharmaceutical or bioscience companies and institutes. Transferable skills developed during the degree also support careers in scientific publication, quality control, scientific sales and roles within local and central government health authorities. The programme also supports progression to postgraduate study such as PGCE, taught Masters or PhD.

Scholarships & funding angle (general)

Published tuition fees are provided for budgeting: for 2026/27 the UK full-time fee is £9,790 per year and international full-time fee is £16,440 per year; for 2027/28 the UK full-time fee is £10,050 and international full-time fee is £16,500 per year. Part-time fees are charged per 30-credit module (£2,447 in 2026/27; £2,512.50 in 2027/28). The university notes students can apply for funding from the spring before the course starts and provides bursaries, scholarships and broader advice via its Student Centre and Careers, Employability and Enterprise Team.
