What you'll study

The curriculum covers applied aspects of early years practice and theory, including early intervention, child health and professional practice, alongside a dissertation project. Dissertation topics in recent years have included identification of gifted and talented children, the role of home visiting in transition, and debates about school starting age. Entry requirements

Applicants are normally expected to hold GCSE English and Mathematics at Grade C/4 or above. Applicants who lack these GCSEs may be considered individually based on their overall application and the course applied for. Applicants with an FdA or FdSc (or equivalent) in a relevant subject are the intended progression cohort. For 2026 entry discussions about suitability and Clearing offers are handled via the University Clearing hotline.

Career prospects

Graduates can progress within children’s services including roles in schools, playgroups, nurseries, children’s centres, social care and voluntary organisations. With an honours degree, students may also move on to postgraduate study such as an MA in Childhood Studies, a PGCE or a Certificate in Education.

Scholarships & funding angle

Published tuition fees for 2026/27 are: UK full-time £9,790 per year; UK part-time charged at £1,631 per 20-credit module; international full-time £15,900 per year. The University notes it may increase fees in line with legislation or government guidance and that there may be additional course-related costs to budget for.
