What you'll study

Entry requirements

• Earned baccalaureate or graduate degree from an institution accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and CHEA, verified by original transcripts sent directly to Indiana Wesleyan University.
• One of the following: cumulative GPA ≥3.0 on a 4.0 scale; or GPA ≥2.5 plus five years of professional experience in an education-related field; or proof of passing state-approved content area examinations.
• Criminal history background check that meets the School of Integrated Learning and Development guidelines and submission of a signed FERPA Release Form.
• Applicants should be aware Indiana requires expanded background checks for those working with students and that additional school corporation background checks are likely before clinical placements.
• Graduation/recommendation for licensure requirements: complete all courses with a minimum GPA of 3.00 and no grade lower than a B-, successfully finish all clinical experience requirements, provide passing scores for required state licensure content and pedagogy exams, and pay all tuition and fees.

Career prospects

Upon successful completion candidates will be recommended for P–12 English Learners teacher licensure in Indiana, enabling roles such as middle school or high school teacher, tutor, or other positions involving English learners. Candidates seeking licensure outside Indiana must verify that this program meets the academic and assessment requirements of their target state.
