What youll study

Coursework builds a broad business foundation (economics, accounting, statistical analysis) alongside finance-specific topics such as investment analysis and corporate finance. Hands-on learning opportunities include the Student Investment Fund, where students collectively manage an actual portfolio using a value investing approach, and participation in honor society and roundtable events that expose students to current economic and business issues. Entrepreneurial students can compete in the PioPitch and PioBiz competitions for start-up funding and mentorship.

Entry requirements

Majors complete the colleges liberal arts core plus a rigorous finance curriculum; the website references an undergraduate curriculum and minor requirements. For graduation capstone options students must complete one of the following: ECON 421 (Empirical Research), MNGT 453 (Business Policies & Practice), or FIN 497 (Internship). The program also expects students to complete an internship or practicum before graduating.

Career prospects

Graduates find roles in banks, financial services firms, consulting and corporate finance. Reported employer internship outcomes include BB&T Bank, Ernst & Young, Goldman Sachs, KeyCorp, Morgan Stanley and various regional banks and insurance firms. Alumni professions listed on the program page include financial advisor, managing director, vice president and strategic alliance director. Marietta notes that 90% of Finance graduates since 2020 were employed or attending graduate school within six months; alumni have progressed to graduate programs at institutions such as Georgia Tech, RIT, The Ohio State University, University of Maryland and University of Rochester.

Many business-related scholarships are awarded after a students first year at Marietta College.
