What you'll study

The programme blends core public administration subjects with applied social service coursework to give students both management and frontline practice skills. Typical study areas include public administration theory, public policy analysis, budgeting and financial management, ethics in the public sector, and administrative law, alongside social welfare policy, human services practice, case management, counselling basics and community organisation.

Students also study research methods and programme evaluation to assess service effectiveness, and develop practical skills such as grant writing, advocacy, conflict resolution and data-informed decision making. The curriculum normally integrates a field practicum or internship component where students gain supervised experience in government agencies, non-profit organisations or community service providers, plus a capstone or applied project that demonstrates their competence in planning and delivering public or social programmes.

Entry requirements

Applicants are typically expected to hold a recognised secondary school qualification. Admissions decisions take account of academic record, personal statement and, where provided, reference letters. Standardised test scores may be considered where available, but many applicants are assessed on their overall academic profile and relevant experience.

Transfer applicants from other colleges must submit transcripts of previous study for credit assessment. International students must meet English language proficiency requirements through an approved test or equivalent evidence of English-medium study. Mature applicants with relevant work or volunteer experience in public service or social care are encouraged to apply and may be considered on the strength of their experience.

Common entry-level positions include programme coordinator, case manager, community outreach worker, policy support assistant and administrative roles within public service departments.
