• Foundations of Bilingual and Multicultural Education – historical, sociocultural and policy contexts that shape education for multilingual communities.
• Second Language Acquisition and Development – theories of language learning, language dominance, and classroom implications for instruction.
• Instructional Strategies for Multilingual Classrooms – scaffolded approaches, translanguaging, sheltered instruction and differentiation for content learning.
• Assessment and Program Evaluation – principles and tools for formative and summative assessment of multilingual learners and for evaluating bilingual programmes.
• Curriculum Design and Materials Development – planning culturally sustaining curricula and selecting/adapting materials for bilingual and multilingual instruction.

Entry requirements

Applicants should hold a recognised bachelor’s degree and demonstrate professional readiness for graduate study. Typical application materials include academic transcripts, a personal statement describing professional goals and experience with multilingual learners, current résumé, and letters of recommendation.

• Teaching certification is not always required for admission, but certain programme pathways and practicum placements may require classroom experience or a valid teaching certificate.
• International applicants must meet the university’s English language proficiency requirements.
• Applicants with professional classroom experience or demonstrated leadership in multilingual settings are especially competitive; the department may also interview shortlisted candidates.
