What you'll study

This programme brings together coursework in environmental science, economics, policy and quantitative methods. Core topics typically include sustainability science, climate policy and governance, environmental economics, energy systems, urban sustainability and resilience, and research methods such as statistics and GIS. Students choose elective modules that reflect their interests—examples include ecosystem services, sustainable finance, environmental justice, life-cycle assessment, renewable energy technologies and behavioural interventions for sustainability.

The degree balances theory and practice. Teaching formats include seminars, applied workshops, case studies and field projects. Most students complete a capstone—either a research thesis or a practicum project conducted with a public agency, non‑profit or private-sector partner—allowing them to apply analytical tools to real-world sustainability challenges.

Entry requirements

• Academic background: A recognised bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (for example, environmental science, economics, public policy, engineering, geography or a related social science). Applicants with quantitative preparation are preferred.
• Transcripts: Official transcripts demonstrating strong academic performance.
• References: Two or three academic or professional references who can speak to the applicant’s analytical ability and potential for graduate study.
• Personal statement: A statement of purpose outlining research interests, career goals and reasons for choosing the programme.
• CV / résumé: A current résumé detailing education, relevant work or volunteer experience, and technical skills.
• Quantitative skills: Evidence of quantitative coursework or experience (for example, statistics, calculus, econometrics, programming) is often expected; applicants without strong prior quantitative training may be advised to take bridging courses.
• English language proficiency: For applicants whose first language is not English, an accepted proof of English proficiency is required.
