What you'll study

This programme combines core modules on operations strategy and quantitative methods with applied modules and a substantial independent project. Teaching balances theory, models and tools with case-based learning, simulations and industry projects so you learn to diagnose operational issues and implement improvements.

• Core topics: operations management and strategy; supply chain management; service operations; operations analytics and performance measurement.
• Quantitative methods: optimisation and simulation techniques for operations planning, forecasting and inventory control; statistics for decision making; data-driven modelling.
• Management and implementation: process design and improvement (Lean, Six Sigma concepts), project and change management, risk and resilience in operations.
• Applied learning: consultancy-style projects, operations lab sessions, industry case studies and group work that address real-world operational challenges.
• Dissertation / major project: an independent research or consultancy project allowing you to apply analytical and managerial skills to a practical operations problem, often in collaboration with an external organisation.

Optional modules allow you to tailor the degree towards analytics, supply chain specialisms, sustainability in operations or technology-enabled operations, depending on availability and your interests.

Entry requirements

Applicants are normally expected to hold a good undergraduate degree (equivalent to a UK upper second class honours) in a relevant discipline such as business, engineering, economics, mathematics or a quantitatively oriented subject. Candidates with substantial professional experience in operations or supply chain roles may also be considered.

Typical requirements include evidence of quantitative ability—this can be demonstrated through prior study in mathematics, statistics, operations research or related modules, or through professional experience that involved analytical work. Academic references and a personal statement outlining your interest in operations management and career objectives are required.
