What you'll study

The LLM at the University of Otago offers flexible study routes, typically a taught coursework pathway, a research (thesis) pathway, or a combined coursework and dissertation option. Entry requirements

Applicants normally need a recognised law degree with good academic standing; this is often an LLB with honours or an equivalent qualification demonstrating strong performance in legal studies. Candidates who hold a Bachelor of Laws without honours but have substantial relevant professional experience or a related postgraduate qualification may also be considered.

• For the research pathway, admission typically requires a research proposal and the agreement of a suitable supervisor within the Law School.
• Proof of English language proficiency is required for applicants whose prior study was not in English.
• Admission is competitive and selection is based on academic record, suitability of the proposed programme of study, and capacity to complete advanced research or coursework at master’s level.
