What you'll study

The programme builds on undergraduate work in English and related humanities subjects and combines theoretical study with practical skills. Core areas typically include advanced English linguistics (syntax, semantics, sociolinguistics, historical linguistics), contemporary and historical anglophone literatures, translation and interpreting studies, and language teaching methodology (TESOL/ELT). You will also study research methods and critical theory relevant to literary and linguistic inquiry.

Entry requirements

Applicants are normally required to hold a recognised bachelor's degree in English studies, modern languages, linguistics, literature or a closely related humanities subject. Candidates with appropriate professional experience or a degree in a related field may be considered if they can demonstrate sufficient background in English studies.
