What you'll study

The programme delivers a concentrated curriculum covering the fundamental biomedical and clinical topics that underpin modern medicine. Typical modules include:

• Human anatomy and physiology: integrated systems-based study with cadaveric and prosection sessions where available.
• Biochemistry and molecular medicine: cellular processes, genetic principles and laboratory techniques relevant to disease mechanisms.
• Pathology and microbiology: mechanisms of disease, host–pathogen interactions and laboratory diagnostics.
• Pharmacology and therapeutics: principles of drug action, prescribing considerations and adverse effects.

• Evidence-based medicine and research methods: critical appraisal, biostatistics, study design and a small research or literature-based project.
• Medical ethics, law and professionalism: patient safety, confidentiality, consent and ethical decision-making in clinical practice.
• Public health and healthcare systems: epidemiology, health promotion and an overview of national and international health services.

Teaching combines lectures, small-group case-based learning, laboratory practicals and clinical skills sessions. Assessment generally includes written exams, practical/OSCE-style assessments, coursework and a capstone project or portfolio.

Entry requirements

Applicants are normally expected to hold a recognised bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification, preferably in a science, biomedical or health-related subject. Relevant professional experience in healthcare may be considered in lieu of a closely related degree. Typical application materials include transcripts, a personal statement outlining motivation and relevant experience, and references.

For programmes taught in English, evidence of English language proficiency is required from applicants whose first language is not English. Some applicants may be invited to interview or to provide additional documentation such as a CV or samples of academic work. Specific entry criteria and any prerequisite courses will be listed by the faculty and should be checked before applying.

Graduates use the Graduate Diploma as preparation for a range of pathways.
