What you'll study

This accelerated master's pathway provides a concentrated grounding in core areas of law alongside advanced legal research and professional skills. Typical core modules cover subjects that mirror the foundations of a qualifying law degree, such as Contract Law, Tort Law, Criminal Law, Property Law, Public/Constitutional Law and Equity & Trusts. Students also study legal research methods, jurisprudence and professional legal skills including drafting, advocacy, client interviewing and ethics.

Optional and advanced modules allow specialisation in areas such as commercial and corporate law, employment law, international and European law, human rights, intellectual property, banking and finance law, and dispute resolution. The programme normally includes a substantial independent research project or dissertation on a topic of current legal relevance, and practical strands that may involve moot courts, simulated client work or placements with local firms or pro bono clinics.

Entry requirements

Applicants are expected to hold a good honours degree from a recognised university. Typical offers commonly require a second‑class upper (2:1) honours degree or an equivalent academic standard; well‑qualified candidates with a lower class degree plus relevant professional experience may also be considered. Academic references and a personal statement outlining motivation for the accelerated route are required.

International applicants must meet English language requirements appropriate to master's study (for example, an internationally recognised test score or equivalent evidence of proficiency). Applicants with prior legal study or professional legal qualifications should submit transcripts to allow appropriate module exemptions or credit where applicable.

Career prospects

Graduates use the accelerated pathway as a step towards vocational legal training (for example, preparation for the Solicitors Qualifying Examination or Bar vocational training) and go on to roles as trainee solicitors, barristers (after vocational qualification), paralegals, legal executives or in-house legal assistants. The programme also prepares students for careers in compliance, public policy, consultancy, government and third‑sector organisations where legal knowledge is valued, as well as for further academic study such as an LLM by research or a PhD.
