What you'll study

This senior-status LLB condenses the core subjects of a qualifying law degree into an accelerated programme that builds on prior study. You will cover the foundational areas of legal knowledge that underpin English and Welsh practice alongside skills-based modules that develop legal research, advocacy and professional ethics.

• Core substantive law: Contract Law, Tort Law, Criminal Law, Public/Constitutional Law, Property/Land Law, Equity & Trusts.
• Foundational public and commercial topics: Administrative Law, Company and Commercial Law, European and International dimensions of law where relevant.
• Legal skills and practice: Legal Research and Writing, Advocacy and Interviewing, Client Care and Professional Ethics, Practical skills workshops and mooting.
• Optional modules: Family Law, Employment Law, Human Rights, Intellectual Property, Commercial Litigation, Alternative Dispute Resolution, and specialist electives reflecting staff expertise and student demand.
• Assessment and structure: A blend of examinations, coursework, case analyses, assessed moots and a research/independent-study component. The programme recognises prior learning and maps incoming students’ previous study onto the accelerated pathway to ensure coverage of the required foundations.

Entry requirements

Entry is aimed at applicants who already hold a relevant higher education qualification such as an HND, foundation degree or equivalent Level 5 qualification in law or a closely related discipline. Typical applicants will demonstrate strong performance across their prior programme and evidence of legal knowledge and academic skills.

• Completion of a relevant HND, foundation degree or equivalent qualification with a good overall result is normally required.
• Mature applicants with substantial professional experience in a legal or paralegal role may be considered; recognition of prior learning and credit transfer is available.
• Applicants for whom English is not a first language will need to meet the University’s English language requirements.
• Selection may include review of transcripts, a personal statement outlining motivation and experience, and references. Specific entry conditions are confirmed by the University for each applicant.

Graduates of the senior-status LLB typically move into a wide range of legal and related careers. The degree provides the substantive grounding needed for those pursuing professional routes as well as graduates seeking roles in other sectors.

• Progression to legal practice: many students go on to vocational training for solicitors or barristers, or sit preparatory programmes for the Solicitors Qualifying Examination/Bar vocational stages.

• Careers in compliance, policy and regulation, local and central government, non-governmental organisations and commercial organisations.
