What you'll study

The Bachelor of Health Science covers core knowledge and practical skills across contemporary health disciplines. You will study human anatomy and physiology, foundations of public health, health promotion and education, epidemiology and biostatistics, research methods, health policy and ethics, and professional communication. The program typically includes a mix of core units and electives, allowing you to tailor your degree towards interests such as chronic disease prevention, Indigenous health, mental health, aged care, or health management.

Course structure is designed to build progressively from foundational theory in early semesters to applied practice and research skills in later stages. Many students complete workplace-based learning or industry placements that provide real-world experience in community health services, non‑government organisations, primary care clinics or health promotion programs. Assessment methods commonly include written assignments, group projects, case studies, practical assessments and a research or capstone project.

Entry requirements

Typical entry to the Bachelor of Health Science requires completion of an Australian Year 12 (or equivalent) qualification. Applicants with vocational qualifications (for example a relevant diploma), recognised tertiary study, or substantial relevant work experience may be eligible for admission through alternative or pathway entry arrangements. Mature‑age applicants are considered on the basis of work experience and previous study.

Domestic applicants may need to meet any additional requirements for specific elective streams or placement subjects, such as a current first aid certificate, immunisation checks, a police and/or working with children check, and relevant health clearances.
