What you'll study

The Bachelor of Health Science provides a broad grounding in the sciences that underpin health and illness, together with applied study in population health, prevention and health promotion. Core study typically includes human anatomy and physiology, principles of biochemistry, epidemiology, statistics and research methods, health systems and health policy, and behavioural determinants of health.

Students choose a major or specialisation stream which may cover areas such as public health and population health, health promotion, nutrition and food security, and health data and informatics. Typical modules include:

Entry requirements

Entry is competitive and based on a successful completion of an Australian Year 12 or an equivalent international secondary qualification. Applicants are assessed on academic performance; relevant assumed knowledge in English is required and studies in biology, chemistry or maths are recommended but not always mandatory.

Domestic applicants typically apply through the local tertiary admissions centre and may need to meet an ATAR or alternative entry pathway. International applicants must hold an equivalent secondary school qualification and meet the University's English language entry requirements. There are also pathways for applicants with prior tertiary study, work experience in health sectors, or who complete a recognised enabling or foundation program.
