See the degree grade →The Computer Science with Integrated Masters at Keele is a four-year integrated degree that combines undergraduate grounding with an extended final-year masters-level research or project component. It suits students who want a rigorous technical education in software, data and systems together with an opportunity to develop specialist, research-led skills for employment or further study.
The programme provides a broad foundation in core areas of computer science before progressing to advanced and research-led topics. Early years cover programming principles, algorithms and data structures, computer systems, databases, mathematics for computing and software engineering practices. As you progress you study modules in operating systems, networks, object-oriented design, human–computer interaction and web and mobile development.
The integrated masters element introduces advanced topics and a substantial independent research or project component at masters level. Typical advanced modules include artificial intelligence and machine learning, data analytics and visualisation, cybersecurity and information assurance, distributed and cloud computing, and advanced software architecture. You will also complete a major individual project or dissertation that demonstrates mastery of research methods or professional development in a chosen specialist area.
Entry typically expects a strong school-leaving qualification with relevant subjects; Mathematics at A-level (or an equivalent) is highly recommended. Keele accepts a wide range of international qualifications and recognised vocational qualifications. Applicants with previous higher education qualifications (for example a related HND or foundation degree) or relevant work experience may also be considered for entry to appropriate years of the programme.
Applicants should demonstrate practical programming experience or evidence of analytical ability. Mature applicants and those from non-traditional backgrounds are welcome and are assessed on the suitability of their prior learning and experience. English language proficiency is required for international students in line with university policy.
