What you'll study

The Bachelor of Health offers a broad programme of study that integrates life sciences with social sciences, health policy and research methods. Typical core topics include human anatomy and physiology, epidemiology and population health, health promotion and disease prevention, mental health, determinants of health, and health systems and policy. You will also study research methods and biostatistics to develop skills in interpreting and conducting health research.

Most students follow a combination of required core courses and electives allowing specialisation in areas such as global health, Indigenous health, ageing and chronic disease, or health behaviour. Practical learning is emphasised through laboratory work, community-based projects and a capstone or practicum placement in a health service, public health agency or non-profit. Many programmes encourage or provide optional co-op or internship opportunities to gain workplace experience.

Entry requirements

• Secondary school completion with strong academic performance. Required senior-level subjects typically include English and a science such as biology or chemistry; mathematics is often recommended.
• Competitive applicants will present a solid overall average in relevant academic subjects; selection may take into account the strength of science and social science preparation.
• Mature applicants without standard secondary qualifications may be considered on the basis of prior post‑secondary study or relevant work experience.
• International applicants must meet the university's English language proficiency requirements (for example, through recognised tests or prior study in English).
• Admission to specific specialisations, co-op streams or practicum placements may have additional requirements, such as background checks or immunisation records where placements are health‑related.

Career prospects

Graduates of the Bachelor of Health enter a wide range of roles across the health sector. Typical entry-level positions include community health worker, health promotion coordinator, program assistant in public health, research assistant in health sciences, and administrative roles within health services or NGOs. The degree also provides an excellent foundation for further professional or graduate study such as nursing, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, public health (MPH), health administration or health policy and research programmes.

With experience or additional qualifications, alumni progress into roles in health program management, policy analysis, epidemiology, health education, and community or Indigenous health leadership. The programme’s emphasis on research skills and practical experience supports transitions into applied research and evaluation roles in government, non‑profit organisations and private-sector health services.
