What you'll study

The programme combines core biomedical sciences with nursing theory, clinical skills and professional practice. Early modules typically cover anatomy and physiology, microbiology, pathophysiology and pharmacology to provide a scientific foundation for care. Nursing-specific modules include fundamentals of nursing, adult health (medical–surgical) nursing, maternal and child health, paediatric nursing, mental health nursing, community and public health nursing, and critical care nursing.

Throughout the course students undertake progressive clinical placements in affiliated hospitals and community settings, supported by simulation-based skills laboratories. Research methods, evidence-based practice and professional issues such as ethics, legal aspects of care and leadership/management are integrated so graduates are prepared for contemporary multidisciplinary practice.

The programme concludes with advanced clinical practicum(s) and a capstone or project that consolidates clinical reasoning, patient safety and communication skills required for registration and practice.

Entry requirements

Applicants are normally expected to have completed secondary education with a science background (biology, chemistry and physics are advantageous) or an equivalent pre‑university qualification. Admission typically requires meeting the university's general entry standards and any faculty-specific screening, which may include an entrance test and/or interview.

Because much of the curriculum is taught in English and involves clinical documentation, demonstrated proficiency in English is required. Applicants must also satisfy health and immunisation requirements and any professional fitness-to-practise checks set by clinical partners and regulatory authorities.

Career prospects

Graduates are prepared for registration and practice as professional nurses in acute hospitals, primary care centres, community health services, schools and long-term care facilities. Common early-career roles include staff nurse in medical–surgical wards, emergency departments, intensive care units, maternity and paediatric units, and community nursing positions.

With experience and further training, graduates can move into specialist clinical roles (for example critical care, oncology, perioperative nursing), nurse education, management and leadership positions, public health, research, or postgraduate study leading to advanced practice roles.
