What you'll study

The programme brings together core topics relevant to contemporary health and social care practice. You will study modules that typically cover evidence-based practice and research methods, health and social care policy, safeguarding and ethics, person-centred approaches, and leadership and service improvement in integrated care settings. Teaching combines lectures, facilitated seminars, case-based learning and applied projects, and many students complete a small practice-based or research-informed assignment that links directly to workplace priorities.

Entry requirements

Applicants are normally expected to hold an undergraduate degree in any discipline from a recognised institution, or to demonstrate equivalent professional experience in a relevant health or social care setting. Practising health and social care professionals without a degree but with substantial vocational experience and employer support are considered on an individual basis. Applicants whose first language is not English will be required to meet the University’s English language standard for postgraduate study.

Career prospects

Graduates use the certificate to support immediate workplace development or to progress to further postgraduate study such as a Master’s in Health and Social Care, Public Health or Health Management. Career pathways include roles in clinical governance, service coordination, care management, quality improvement, commissioning, policy support within local authorities or NHS organisations, and roles with third-sector providers.
