What you'll study

Coursework combines classroom, simulation technology and practicum experiences in local and regional hospitals, health agencies and community partners, with an emphasis on rural health practice. The program includes inter-professional experiences and clinical placements to prepare students for entry-level nursing roles across acute care and community settings. The college recommends applicants complete preparatory courses (English 100, Biology 181, Biology 182) and two non-nursing electives while waiting for an available seat to reduce course load after admission.

Entry requirements

Admission uses a selective, holistic process. Applications are accepted annually from November 1 to February 15; all academic admission requirements must be submitted by February 28. Applicants must complete an online CASPer assessment (Computer-Based Assessment for Sampling Personal Characteristics) as a mandatory component of selection. Priority is given to applicants who have final grades for CHEM 11, MATH 11, BIOL 12 and ENGL 12 submitted by the transcript deadline. Applicants still enrolled in required courses may apply and must submit final grades as soon as completed. Additional admission conditions include a Requisite Skills and Abilities Declaration, a criminal record check through the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General, and completion of the program’s Notice of Collection, Use and Disclosure Agreement.

Career prospects

On graduation students are prepared for entry-level nursing practice in a range of settings from hospitals to community-based programs. Practicum placements emphasize rural health, giving experience relevant to work in regional hospitals, community health, and other care settings.

Scholarships & funding angle (general)

Tuition and fees for domestic students are provided for the 2026/27 academic year for semesters 1–5 at College of the Rockies (yearly tuition figures and fees listed in the program page). Students should budget for additional costs such as travel for practice experiences, access to a computer for coursework, approximately $3,000 for books and supplies, about $250 for uniforms and shoes, and a $10 annual Canadian Nursing Student Association fee. Practicum travel, accommodation and associated costs are the student’s responsibility.
