What you'll study

The curriculum emphasises midwifery practice integrated with health sciences foundations and includes clinical practicums, fieldwork and opportunities for international exposure where available. Course content prepares students for the clinical, ethical and attitudinal aspects required of midwifery professionals.

Entry requirements

  • English requirement: Grade C6 in GCE O Level English; or Grade B in IGCSE English (as a Second Language); or IELTS overall 6.0; or TOEFL paper-based 550.
  • A-Level: Minimum 220 points for three A-Level passes in relevant subjects including Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics or Physics (other subject combinations considered case-by-case).
  • Higher National Diploma: HND or National Diploma in Sciences with minimum 5 merits in related subjects (accepted subjects assessed case-by-case).
  • Diploma routes: Diploma in Health Sciences (Midwifery, Nursing or Paramedic) from a recognised institution without work experience may be considered with an equivalent to UBD 2.2 degree classification or Politeknik Brunei CGPA ≥2.0 with no repeat modules.
  • Articulated BHSc (Hons) in Midwifery: Diploma in Midwifery applicants without work experience normally require a qualification equivalent to UBD 2.1 (or Politeknik Brunei CGPA 2.4) with no repeats; alternatively, a Diploma with at least 18 months or two years' relevant work experience may be accepted depending on the diploma type.
  • Other accepted qualifications: International Baccalaureate with at least 26 points including HL scores of 5,5,4 in relevant subjects (two at HL); or an internationally recognised bachelor degree with second-class honours in a relevant discipline.
  • All candidates who meet academic criteria must pass a Multiple Mini-Interview (MMI) assessing prerequisite healthcare knowledge, attitudes, ethics and critical skills.
  • Medical fitness: Applicants must undergo a prescribed medical fitness examination and be certified fit to join the programme.

Career prospects

Graduates are prepared for midwifery practice and related clinical roles within maternal and newborn health settings. The programme’s clinical placements and professional focus support transition into employment in hospitals, community maternal health services and comparable midwifery positions.
