What you'll study

Curriculum components and learning experiences include:

• Clinical rotations providing direct patient care with adults, mental health populations, pediatrics, and obstetrics.
• A population health clinical offering either an immersion experience abroad or work with a vulnerable local community population.
• Experience in a range of local settings such as inpatient rehabilitation, assisted living, long-term care, elementary schools, occupational and community health, and acute care at nearby hospitals including Froedtert Hospital and Children’s Wisconsin.
• Skills and simulation training in the Sharon A. Schoeneck Nursing Lab using moderate- and high-fidelity human patient simulators across the lifespan; practice tasks include taking vital signs, heart and lung auscultation, wound care, IV setup, and scenario-based debriefing with audio-visual capture.
• A 120-hour preceptorship during the final semester to consolidate clinical competence and professional role transition.

Entry requirements

Incoming first-year students may apply for direct admission to the nursing major but must meet progression criteria to continue in the program. Key requirements include:

• Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 during the freshman year.
• A minimum grade of C in all required nursing program courses.
• Pass caregiver and criminal background checks.
• Obtain Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification prior to sophomore-level nursing courses.
• Hold American Heart Association BLS Healthcare Provider certification and maintain current CPR certification throughout the program.
• Provide documentation of required immunizations and be free of communicable disease, including tuberculosis.
• Note: Chromebooks, iPads, and tablets are not compatible with some required nursing software; students should plan technology accordingly. Transfer students will develop a tailored plan with Admissions and the School of Nursing chair.

Career prospects

Graduates enter practice across a variety of clinical settings and the program reports strong employment outcomes and state board exam performance. Alumni hold roles in emergency departments, intensive care units, trauma, OB-GYN and oncology units and work at regional hospitals such as Froedtert Hospital, Aurora St. Luke’s, Aurora Sinai, Children’s Wisconsin and Columbia St. Mary’s. The program reported a first-time NCLEX-RN pass rate of 94% for May 2026 graduates and notes that many students receive job offers before graduation, with most nursing graduates employed in a nursing role within four months of finishing the program.
