What you'll study

Coursework focuses on foundational and applied manufacturing topics. Two named courses are Manufacturing Fundamentals and Manufacturing Applications. Topics covered include lean manufacturing principles, production planning, Six Sigma, enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, ISO 9000 quality standards, Gantt charts and material requirements planning. All instructional materials are provided as part of enrollment.

Entry requirements

These are continuing-education courses designed for both entry-level students and working professionals; no academic prerequisites are listed on the course page. Technical requirements must be met before the course begins: a PC with Windows 8 or later or a Mac with macOS 12 or later; a modern browser (Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox preferred; Microsoft Edge and Safari compatible); Adobe Acrobat Reader; access to a personal email account, a calculator, and a printer. All required software must be installed and operational prior to start.

Career prospects

Completing these courses prepares learners for entry-level positions and internal advancement in production, quality control, supply chain and operations roles. Employers value skills in lean principles, process planning and ERP use; over time, practitioners with this background can move into supervisory and operations-management roles within manufacturing and distribution settings.

Scholarships & funding angle (general)

Tuition and fees vary by course. Most individual CEWD courses are listed at $129 each; a one-time-per-year non-refundable registration fee of $15 is charged at first registration. Residency surcharges apply (an additional $5 per course for Maryland students, $10 for non-Maryland students).
