What you'll study

The curriculum follows a set course sequence of four classes focused on practical hospitality competencies.

• HCT117 Sanitation and Food Safety — prepares candidates for the ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification Exam.
• HCT102 Introduction to Hospitality Management — foundational management perspective on hospitality trends and service delivery.
• HCT114 Event Management — event coordination and related operational skills.
• HCT132 Hospitality Operations — operational procedures and basic financial control for hospitality settings.

Entry requirements

English readiness must be verified. Options include Accuplacer scores (Next Gen Reading 237 or Reading 229 and Writing 237), ESL reading score of 102 or ESL overall 276, placement into or enrollment in ENGL 70 or higher, or submission of recent high school/college grades or standardized test scores (TOEFL, ACT, AP, CLEP, DSST, GED, PARCC/MCAP, SAT). CEWD program-specific requirements may vary by course; consult individual course descriptions.

Career prospects

Graduates gain skills applicable across hotels and resorts, restaurants and food service, event venues, tourism organizations and conference management. The training can support entry-level employment, help experienced staff formalize skills for supervisory roles, and strengthen credentials for advancement. Passing the ServSafe exam provides an industry-recognized credential valued by employers.

Scholarships & funding angle (general)

Program costs are listed up to approximately $1,925 with a one-time $15 registration fee; residency surcharges may apply. CEWD students may access financial assistance such as CEWD scholarships, workforce development funding and program-specific aid. Exam fees are included in program costs; prospective students can use the Financial Assistance Request Form to explore eligibility.
