A distance-learning bachelor's focused on the fundamentals and craft of creative writing across poetry, fiction, drama, scripts and journalism. Designed for adult learners and professionals, the programme emphasizes character, motivation, dramatic conflict, and practical problem‑solving in written forms.
The degree requires 130 academic credits above secondary school and is structured around 100% textbook study. Composition of the credit requirement includes 60 BIU academic credits in Creative Writing plus a minimum of 40 general education credits (which may be transferred or validated from prior education or professional experience) and other additional subjects.
Admission is open to adults over 23 years of age. A minimum of 30% of total programme credits must be transferred from previous education and/or validated professional experience to gain admission. Bircham allows transfer of prior academic credits and recognition of professional experience (CFLEX); up to 20% of total credits may be from professional and life experience. General education minimum requirements are 40 credits, and a minimum transfer of 40 credits from previous education should be accounted as equivalent general education credits toward the bachelor degree.
Learning outcomes are aligned with EQF levels 4 and 5, focusing on specialised comprehension and the application of knowledge to problem solving in creative writing. Graduates may apply these competencies in the professional fields of Arts & Humanities, including roles that draw on narrative development, scriptwriting, journalism and related communications work, using analytical and practical writing skills developed through course projects and reports.
Fees cover the programme of study, textbooks, study guide, evaluation and assessment, diploma and transcript. BIU states cost per earned undergraduate credit as 70 Euros (90 US$) and per transferred credit as 20 Euros (25 US$); the published total tuition range for the 130-credit programme is a minimum of 3,510 Euros (4,420 US$) up to 6,800 Euros (8,700 US$). Payment plans are available on request for up to 36 monthly installments and Bircham may award partial scholarships or financial assistance on a case-by-case basis.
