MA Acting for Screen

DegreeMasters
FieldPerforming Arts

A practice-led master's focused on screen acting techniques for film and television, taught in Solent’s production studios. Suited to performers with prior acting experience who want to develop single- and multi-camera skills, make screened work and prepare a research-informed final project.

What you'll study

Focus areas include techniques specific to single-camera (film/TV) and multi-camera (soap/sitcom) formats, supported by practical production skills such as shooting and editing. Acting training draws on practitioners including Konstantin Stanislavski, Uta Hagen and Sanford Meisner, and is underpinned by the theoretical frameworks that support screen performance. Semester two is devoted to developing a project proposal and industry-focused awareness; semester three is the supervised PaR production for the final on-screen performance.

Entry requirements

Typical entry: 2:2 or higher. Applicants should bring previous performance experience, though this does not have to be screen-based.

Career prospects

The course prepares graduates to work as professional screen actors across film, television and related media and supports routes into recorded media content creation. It also provides a foundation for postgraduate research (MRes, MPhil, PhD) and for leading interdisciplinary arts projects.
