What you'll study

The programme requires a total of 120 credit points. Every semester a complex design project is undertaken, with three studio choices offered by different professors covering urban design, building design and building-in-use/heritage. Core recurring elements include history and theory, façade design, visualization, construction and technical building services (TGA), plus sustainable building topics. The fourth semester is dedicated to the Master thesis (25 CP for submission and 5 CP for presentation/colloquium).

• Semester 1: Projekt 1 (Städtebau & Hochbau), Fassaden, Geschichte & Theorie, Visualisierung and two elective modules — total 30 CP.
• Semester 2: Projekt 2 (Bauen im Bestand & Baukonstruktion), Denkmalpflege, Konstruktion Bestand/Baukonstruktion and two electives — total 30 CP.
• Semester 3: Projekt 3 (Integrale Planung), Nachhaltiges Bauen, TGA (Master) and two electives — total 30 CP.
• Semester 4: Masterthesis (Abgabe 25 CP; Präsentation/Kolloquium 5 CP) — total 30 CP.

Available elective modules cover applied topics such as 5D Lab (integration/coordination), applied building physics, BIM (3D, 4D/5D, 6D), brandschutz (fire safety) in new and existing buildings, construction management and cost controlling, lean construction, parametric modelling, urban design subjects (sustainable/urban city), special topics in visualization, international consulting, and options from related faculties (e.g. JLU/Uni Marburg). Entry requirements

Admission requires a completed diploma or bachelor degree in architecture with a final grade of 2.5 or better. Applicants with a grade of 1.9 or better are admitted directly. Applicants scoring between 1.9 and 2.5 must submit a portfolio as specified in §4 of the 2018 Master examination regulations. The programme admits new students in winter and summer semesters. Application windows are listed: domestic applicants (1 June–1 Sept for winter; 1 Dec–1 Mar for summer) and international applicants via uni-assist (1 Apr–15 July for winter; 1 Oct–15 Jan for summer). Career prospects

Graduates are prepared for leadership roles in architecture and planning practices, the construction and real-estate sector, or public administration, with responsibilities in project planning, urban design and site management. The degree also provides a route into research or roles in urban development. After two years of professional practice, the degree qualifies graduates for registration on the regional architects' lists and for the professional title Architect/Architectin in Germany.
